Old City Jewish Quarter: Half Day Tour

In this walking tour we spend approx. 4 hours exploring the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, following the overarching theme of destruction and renewal. Highlights include the Cardo, Hurva Square, The Herodian Mansions, and the Western Wall.

Itinerary

9.00am: Meet on the plaza before entering the Jaffa Gate or the Zion Gate

9.30am: Walk the Roman-byzantine Cardo; the ancient street of Jerusalem.

10.30am: View the Broad-Wall built 2,700 years ago.

10.45am: The Hurva Square with view of the Hurva Synagogue & the Golden Menorah.

11.15am: Tour the Herodian Mansions*, home to the priests of the Temple.

11.45am: Memorial to the defenders of the Jewish Quarter in 1948.

12.30pm: Visit the Western Wall

1pm: Tour ends at the Western Wall

  • ** Please note that photography at the Western Wall, and at other Jewish holy sites, is prohibited on Saturday and on Jewish holidays.

  • Some sites may be closed on Saturday or religious holidays.

  • This itinerary is a rough guide only, and will be adapted depending on the interests, needs, and ability of the group.

  • The entire tour is on foot; this is a physically demanding tour.

  • Please wear clothing that covers the knees and the shoulders, and is not skin tight or see-through for both men and women. Men are required to cover their heads in some sites. head coverings are made available.
